The Province Archives

The purpose of the Archives was defined in 1989 by a policy statement of the Definitory:

(The) Archives are the official depository for all the manuscripts including correspondence, personal papers, productions, photographs, slides, audio and video tapes, songbooks, maps, charts, blueprints, diagrams, graphs, books, machine readable records, artifacts, and all pertinent documents of any form, made or received by the community in the pursuit of its religious and legal obligations and in the transaction of its business.

The Province Archives was started with the leadership of Provincial Wayne Hellmann, O.F.M. Conv. who appointed Bro. Larry Eberhardt, O.F.M. Conv. as the first Archivist for the Province. Starting a cramped space in the Mission Advancement Office another space was found at the Mount in 1991. (For construction pictures click here.)

The Archives is located behind the Rotunda (2nd floor) and the Dining Hall (1st hall). One reaches the archives by driving around the old school building (Youth Retreat building), past the chapel, and as in the basement area in the next building extension–under the 3 floors of retreat rooms. Hours vary but generally are 8:15 a.m. to about 4:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. However, since there is usually just one person in the office it is best to call first: 812-923-7876.
