Exhibition Overview

“Beyond the Blue” is an evocative exploration of historical narratives and natural symbology, brought to life by artists Kevin Rose Schultz and Trish Korte.

Kevin Rose Schultz finds inspiration in vintage textiles, using a historic photographic process to print vintage dresses and old family photos on cotton fabric with cyanotype. These printed dresses and images tell stories of specific times and places in our history. The dresses reveal the essence of the women who wore them and the loving craftsmanship involved and the photographs help us to connect to our history. With a background in Visual Art education, Kevin’s work blends meticulous craftsmanship with a deep appreciation for historical narratives, showcased in her numerous solo and juried group exhibitions.

Trish Korte’s art practice centers around the natural world, where she grows and forages materials for printing—this direct contact method reveals the intricate shapes and hidden imagery of natural elements using a historic solar printing process. Drawing inspiration from plant systems and the textures of feathers, Trish translates these natural elements into ceramic and fiber art. Her ongoing collaboration with natural materials speaks symbolically and metaphorically, creating a dialogue between nature and art.

Together, their works transcend the literal blue of the cyanotype and, inviting viewers to delve deeper into the emotional and historical layers beyond the blue, uncovering the rich stories and hidden details of the past and nature.
